Ontario G1 Knowledge Test — Province Guide
Ontario uses a two-part format: 20 road sign questions and 20 traffic rule questions. You must score at least 16 correct on each part independently. Failing either part means a full retest after a 10-day waiting period.
Ontario-Specific Rules Tested Frequently
- Zero tolerance for G1/G2 drivers: no alcohol or cannabis detectable. Even a trace amount results in an immediate 24-hour licence suspension.
- Community Safety Zones: fines are doubled; often found near schools and playgrounds.
- Stopping for school buses: must stop in both directions when the red lights are flashing, regardless of the number of lanes, unless on a divided highway.
- Roundabouts: yield to traffic already in the roundabout; do not stop unless a yield or stop sign indicates it.
- 400-series highways: G1 drivers may not use them unless accompanied by a government-approved driving instructor.
